Job Purpose:

To be responsible for all aspects of litigated and non-litigated, serious and catastrophic personal injury claims

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist a Grade A Senior Solicitor with all aspects of litigated and non – litigated personal injury files and clinical negligence claims (serious injury/ multi track) value and/or of a technical nature
  • Continuously risk assess a case as it progresses and identify cases that should not be progressed at the appropriate stage
  • Comply with reporting requirements of ATE provider/funder
  • Minimise WIP and disbursement write offs
  • To perform to KPIs driven by client satisfaction ratings, financial performance, management of risk and teamwork
  • To assist in the mentoring, training and development of other team members
  • Have an excellent working knowledge of the CPR and relevant case law and legislation.
  • Progressing claims in a timely manner in accordance with the CPR
  • To identify the need for signposting to other organisations such as Headway
  • To attend if required, meetings or events associated with the support of our clients such as Road Peace, Headway or other similar organisations. Some meetings may be out of conventional office hours
  • Engage with business development activities as required by HOD
  • To be proactive in identifying opportunities for new business
  • To be proactive in identifying and signposting for benefits entitlement check
  • To proactively review on the clients behalf the existence of relevant policies or cover in place such as critical illness or permanent health and advise the client accordingly
  • To liaise with the coroners court and attend the coroners court as needed
  • To attend if required the Magistrates or Crown Court for the hearing of any associated criminal proceedings
  • Be able to obtain relevant and necessary evidence (medical or otherwise), liaising with medical experts as necessary
  • Instruct Counsel, to attend conferences, hearings and CMC’s, JSMs and other interlocutory hearings
  • Undertake telephone or personal advocacy
  • Draft pleadings, applications, instructions, briefs and schedules of loss
  • Take a pragmatic commercial approach to settlements and advising clients as to litigation/cost risks
  • Ensure any appropriate instructions are obtained from any relevant lay and/or insurance clients or their litigation friend where the client is a protected party
  • Prioritise urgent schedule entries and dealing with remainder of daily tasks on To Do list
  • Prioritise Court directions ensuring all directions are complied with in a timely manner
  • Liaise with Professional Deputy and Case managers throughout the case
  • Engage with mentoring and training other team members as required by your manager or Department Head
  • Writing articles or blogs for internal and external publication as required by HOD

Experience & Knowledge:

  • A Grade A Solicitor or Legal Executive with a minimum of 8 years’ experience running their own case load of serious injury and clinical negligence files or assisting a senior solicitor with all aspects of the case
  • A proven track record of strong financial performance and client satisfaction
  • Excellent client care and analytical skills, to include providing written and oral advice in a clear and concise manner
  • Have empathy and compassion to deal with bereaved families or those whose loved one has suffered life changing injuries
  • Be available out of normal office hours to speak to clients from time to time as required
  • Excellent communication skills, written and oral.
  • Good IT skills with a sound working knowledge of VF or a similar case management system and essential MS Office knowledge
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills
  • Ability to stay calm under pressure
  • A flexible and adaptable attitude to resolving issues
  • Knowing when to ask for help or guidance
  • Being proactive in identification of ways to improve working processes


  • Full clean driving licence
  • AvMA Panel Membership (or relevant experience that would lead to a successful application) or Law Society Clin Neg Accreditation
