Ground breaking collaboration to bridge the new generation talent gap

11 November 2024

Carpenters Group are proud to announce that we are an ambassador for the ILC New Generation in Claims programme.

I Love Claims is collaborating with UCAS and Consumer Intelligence in a bid to close the widening talent gap in claims capabilities in the insurance industry.

Building on the success of ILC’s New Generation in Claims programme, this ground-breaking initiative highlights the growing need to appeal to the next generation of professionals. Together, ILC, UCAS, and Consumer Intelligence are set to launch one of the largest surveys of its kind, focusing on early career perceptions of the insurance claims industry.

“Our mission is clear: to make insurance claims careers a magnet for young talent,” said Sue Whyte, CEO of ILC. “This initiative marks a true turning point for our sector.”

Ian Hughes, CEO of Consumer Intelligence, shared his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “Understanding the perceptions of early career professionals is crucial for the future of the industry. This initiative will provide invaluable insights that will help insurers attract and retain the brightest young minds.”

David Penney, Chief Communications and Marketing Officer at UCAS said, “As an independent charity, it is our responsibility to ensure young people have information and access to all post-secondary options available to them across various industries through higher education and apprenticeships. Being part of this initiative, allows us to offer young people more insight into the insurance sector, helping them make more informed career choices.”

The collaboration will launch in November with a series of online feedback sessions between ILC’s New Generation in Claims Sponsors and Ambassadors to shape questions and outcomes for the main survey, ensuring that the insights gathered are both relevant and actionable.

“The online feedback sessions give the opportunity for industry leaders to come together, share their expertise, and directly influence the future of talent acquisition in insurance claims,” added Sue.

The survey itself, which is anticipated to include circa 1,000 respondents, will provide insight to generate practical strategies to attract and retain new talent.

The findings will be compiled into a comprehensive report, set to be unveiled in May 2025 as part of a Discovery Day hosted at UCAS head offices – providing an opportunity to discuss the findings and create tangible actions to take forward.

Supporting the mission is Ian Thompson of IMT Advisory and previously Group Chief Claims Officer at Zurich Insurance. Ian said, “The insurance industry faces the risk of a significant capability shortfall in the near future. With an increasing proportion of the working population approaching retirement age and greater competition for early-in career talent, the skills needed to sustain claims service delivery are in particularly short supply. The launch of this initiative couldn’t come at a more critical time for the industry.’

We look forward to the survey report launch!
