Injury Awareness Week 2026

Injury Awareness Week is a reminder that when someone is injured, the impact rarely stops with them.

An unexpected injury can affect every part of a person’s life. It can change how they work, how they live, and how they connect with others. It also affects the people around them, from family and friends to colleagues and employers. The reality is that injury has a far wider reach than many people realise.

Last year, more than 430,000 people in the UK were injured as a result of negligence. These incidents happen in many different ways, on the roads, at work, in public places or during medical treatment. Behind every one of those cases is a person whose life has been disrupted, often without warning.

For many, the challenges are not only physical. Injury can bring upon someone things such as financial pressure, uncertainty about the future, a loss of independence and many more. Even less severe injuries can have a lasting impact on confidence and day to day life.

At Carpenters Group, this is something we see every day. As one of the UK’s leading personal injury firms, we support clients through every stage of their claims journey. From the outset, each client is supported by a dedicated case handler, with clear communication and guidance throughout. The focus is always on achieving the right outcome while making the process as straightforward as possible.

Every case is different. Some involve relatively minor injuries that still require time, support and understanding. Others are far more complex, involving life changing harm and long-term recovery.

For those clients, specialist support becomes even more important.

Carol Hopwood, Head of Serious Injury, explains:

“Serious injury work is never just about the legal process, it's about understanding how someone's life has changed and supporting them, and their family, through what comes next. Our clients are often facing uncertainty they never expected. Our role is to guide them through the process with empathy and a focus on what really matters to them. Our role is to ensure justice on their behalf.”

That perspective reflects a wider truth across all personal injury work. Behind every claim is a person trying to move forward after something has gone wrong.

Injury Awareness Week is about making that visible. It highlights the scale of injury caused by negligence and encourages a wider understanding of its impact. It also reinforces why injured people must remain at the centre of decision making, whether that is in policy, workplaces or public spaces.

Raising awareness is only one part of the picture. Preventing avoidable harm is just as important. Greater awareness can lead to safer behaviours, better standards and stronger support for those affected when things do go wrong.

For organisations like ours, it is also an opportunity to reflect on the role we play. Providing legal expertise matters, but so does listening and being clear whilst supporting people through what is often a difficult and unfamiliar process.

Injury can happen to anyone. Injury Awareness Week is a chance to recognise that, understand the wider impact, and support those affected in a more informed and compassionate way.
