Meet the Team: Cassie Hopkins - Legal Defence Team Manager
Name:
Cassie Hopkins
Role:
Defence Team Manager
Why a career in law?
I chose to study law at ‘A’ level and developed a real interest in it, mostly due to having a great teacher. I find the legal system interesting and enjoy looking at the law from different perspectives to achieve the fairest outcome.
What’s the best thing about working at Carpenters?
The best thing for me about working at Carpenters Group is their willingness to support staff and provide opportunities for development and progression. I am currently completing my SQE apprenticeship with the firm to qualify as a Solicitor and have always felt extremely supported and encouraged.
Most rewarding element of your role?
As a manager the most rewarding element of the job has been training team members and helping them to develop personally and professionally. This helps them to meet their own career goals and also ensures team members can deliver the best standard of work to our clients.
Career highlight?
A highlight in my career so far would probably be helping to lead the Legal Defence Department in the OIC reforms that took place in May 2021. I was assigned with reviewing the law, helping to develop a strategy and running training sessions for the department. I was also heavily involved in early cases, including a key judgment which confirmed that headaches would come within the whiplash tariff, unless a further mechanism was identified.
If you didn’t pursue a career in law what career would you have pursued?
When I was younger I was always interested in a career in forensic science - probably from watching too many crime programmes!
Outside interests?
I have two daughters who are aged 11 months and 2.5 years, so life outside of work is mostly very chaotic! When I do get some time to myself, I enjoy reading and walking with my two pugs, Winnie and Mabel.
