National Apprenticeship Week, meet Nia

09 February 2022

National Apprenticeship Week 2022 takes place this week, from 7-13 February 2022. It brings together everyone passionate about apprenticeships to celebrate the value, benefit, and opportunity that apprenticeships bring.

At Carpenters Group, we feel passionately about creating opportunities for our people whilst at the same time supporting their development and career paths.

This week we have asked some of our apprentices to talk about their apprenticeship journeys and future career plans and aspirations...

Nia Gelder – HR Level 3

"I am currently working towards my Level 3 HR support qualification; this course allowed me to understand the basics of what it takes to be a successful HR professional.

Over the course of 15 months, I have submitted eight projects, have now completed my final consultative project, and completed a professional discussion. I also have spent 20% of my contracted hours learning off-the- job by shadowing and being mentored by other HR professionals from within my team.

My advice to any future apprentices would be to focus on the advice and skills you can learn from your mentors as not only does this contribute to the apprenticeship but it also helps with your personal development and how to handle your own cases, which is something that following completion of my course I am confident in doing. Since finishing my course, I hope to achieve the next level, which will help with my career progression and provide me with the qualifications needed to be a successful HR professional."
