05 March 2025
At Carpenters Group, we’re proud to support National Careers Week - a time to highlight the incredible career opportunities available in the legal, insurance, and technology sectors.
We have been promoting roles and reasons why anybody starting a career, looking for a change, or aiming to develop new skills, Carpenters Group is a place that offers a range of pathways to help them thrive.
We recently spoke to Mike Dunne, Senior Account Manager, about his career so far at Carpenters Group
How long have you worked here?
I joined the business as an operations team manger in the first response unit back in 2011. After several years and significant growth of the business, with the requirement to ensure the department had efficient processes in place, I was asked to conduct some continuous improvement activity.
Then in 2016 I was asked to join the Commercial Team as Relationship Manager, working with out insure and broker partners.
Since then, I have continued to focus on achieving further growth in my career I now hold the title of Senior Account Manager. Along with the support of the commercial director and our team of supply chain managers we manage the relationships of the large number of insurer partners and suppliers across the business.
What does your day-to-day role look like?
My day-to-day activities are quite dynamic an involve a mix of external interaction with our partners, performance management and a lot of strategic planning.
I’m often on the road visiting insurers, brokers and suppliers showcasing our business and the brilliant things are teams do.
You’ll often find me in a meeting room or on a call discussing the latest industry insight and providing a much-needed overview of how business is supporting our industries customers.
What is your favourite memory with Carpenters Group?
I have to say it was meeting my now wife, Lauren (or she’ll kill me).
Aside from this I’ve had some great memories along the way, personal ones such as my development in my career and the recognition for this from the senior management team. To camping in a cold and wet field with colleagues during two-day survival challenge in the lake district.
What inspired you to join the team?
I ended up joining as a result of some bad luck with a previous role. I’d been made redundant and was on the hunt for my next role. I was fortunate enough to be asked along for an interview. Fortunately, I must have done ok as I was offered the position the same day and started the following week.
They say “when one door closes, another opens” well I’m glad the Carpenters door opened.
What are your favourite things about working for Carpenters Group?
The people and the culture are what makes this business, having worked here for some time I’ve have the privilege to meet a lot of colleagues throughout this time and one thing that always resonates is how passionate each and everyone of them are about their jobs.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learnt throughout your career?
Sounds cliché but it’s about being honest, hard working and trusting yourself and your ability.
The other important element to a successful career is having a great team of people around you to learn from and turn to when you need a lift as your day hasn’t gone to plan.
What does the future look like for you?
The future for me is about continuing to learn from the good people around me and who knows from there. I’m always striving to progress and take the next steps in my career journey, that doesn’t always come with new job titles or fancy accolades it comes with job satisfaction and appreciation for the job you’re doing by the people who trust in you each day.
One thing I do know is that my future lies with Carpenters.
