ABI Week 2024

Action for Brain Injury Week (ABI Week) provides an annual platform on which Headway raise awareness of brain injury.

ABI Week 2024 will take place between the 20th and 26th May, the theme for this year is - A life re-written

As part of Action for Brain Injury Week our Head of Serious and Catastrophic Injury, Carol Hopwood, spoke to us about why we support this campaign.

"Whilst as lawyers we deal with our clients legal claims, being involved with Headway gives us greater insight into their daily struggles, relationship struggles, psychological impact and loss of normality.  Many have no friends, no social life and no purpose.  I set out below an extract from a former client of ours and a Headway Sefton Member where Donna Ellis and I volunteer. 

One of our Headway Sefton members sums it up brilliantly:
“The understanding they have, and being able to sign-post me to who I can get help from has been priceless. They have given me such a new lease of life. They have supported me & my family with lots of information and have helped me so much with my rehabilitation. I have gone from someone being very quiet, shy, and embarrassed by my new limitations to someone who is happy to speak to anyone at the group and someone who now feels comfortable sharing ideas and tips that have helped me in my recovery. Headway Sefton and its members have transformed me. The work Headway Sefton do is invaluable and is a crucial part of helping brain injury survivors & their families get as much back into their lives as they can. I'd have been lost without them. I can see the help they have given to lots of people who attend the group. The work they do is a huge part of our lives”
