Carpenters Group drive awareness for Road Safety Week
22 November 2024
To support #RoadSafetyWeek, an initiative by Road Safety Charity Brake from 17-23 November 2024, Carpenters Group had the privilege of hearing from Roads Policing Inspector Gavin Dixon of Merseyside Police.
On Tuesday 19 November, over 80 attendees from across our organisation participated in an internal event where Inspector Dixon shared valuable insights on road safety and the main causes of fatal and serious injuries in Merseyside. We learned how we can all contribute to reducing these alarming statistics.
Every day, five lives are lost on our roads—most of which are preventable. Inspector Dixon highlighted the severe consequences of using mobile phones while driving, the role of speed in 52% of fatal collisions, and the dangers of drink and drug driving, including the risks posed by certain prescription medications.
This year, for Road Safety Week, we commend Brake as they lead the development of a Road Victims’ Charter. This calls on the Government to provide sustainable funding and parity of care for road victims and their families, whoever they are, regardless of location and whether or not crime has occurred.
We also want to acknowledge the vital work of organisations like Aftermath, Road Peace, Brake, and others in promoting road safety, reducing collisions, and supporting the families affected.
