Carpenters Group has and always will be built around our fantastic people and the vibrant communities around us.
Our Owner / Director Donna Scully is resolute when she says that; Talent is evenly distributed, opportunity is not’. Donna, along with John Carpenter has set the course for our business to succeed inside and outside of work and to help others as we do.
We have created a workplace where people feel valued and supported, with opportunities to develop their careers and progress within the business. We also recognise that a company of our size has a role to play outside its offices.
With 1,500 colleagues across eight office locations, Carpenters Group is made up of people from a wide range of backgrounds, all bringing different experiences and ambitions with them. Those people shape the business and the culture within it, while also playing an important part in the organisations and causes we choose to support.
We want people to be able to build long and rewarding careers at Carpenters Group and to have the opportunity to progress while they are here.
For some, that starts with an apprenticeship, while for others it may begin with work experience or through the early careers work that we do with schools and colleges. For example, our colleagues give their time to run mock interviews with secondary school children and other initiatives that help young people get a clearer sense of the opportunities available to them and what a future career might look like.
That support continues once somebody joins us. Apprenticeships and our Legal Academy give colleagues the chance to develop, while training is available across a wide range of roles and at different stages of a person’s entire career. Initiatives like our Lunch and Learn sessions offer colleagues the chance to develop their skills during the working day.
Our collaboration with CILEX is an important part of that approach. Through CILEX, colleagues can work towards professional legal qualifications while continuing to work at Carpenters Group, giving people who have not taken the traditional university route another way into the legal profession and the opportunity to build that career while being employed.
You can see the successful result of that approach across Carpenters Group, where many of our managers have developed their careers over time having originally starting in entry level roles. A number of our most senior leaders have followed that exact same path. We want opportunities to be open to new people joining us today as well as those already building their careers here.
Being able to be yourself, free from fear is something we take seriously. We want people to feel safe and accepted at Carpenters Group, knowing that inclusion is our default position.
Our DEI Network gives colleagues a voice within the business, while our Mental Health First Aiders provide practical support across the organisation. “Forever Proud” has remained a key message as part of our yearly Pride campaign and recognises that Pride isn’t just for a month, it is 24/7-365. These efforts were celebrated recently with award success at the British LGBT Awards.
Culture is not created by a policy or an initiative on its own. It develops through the way people work together every day, whether people feel listened to and whether they feel respected by those around them.
That is the kind of culture we are committed to maintaining at Carpenters Group. We want colleagues to feel part of their team and the wider business and for people to know that kindness and support are part of the way we work with one another.
Carpenters Group has longstanding relationships with a number of charities and community organisations, many of them doing important work in the same communities where our colleagues live and work.
Much of this activity is driven by our colleagues themselves, who raise money for causes that matter to them and volunteer within their own communities. Others get involved through activities organised across the business during the year. To aid this, every colleague is entitled to two paid volunteering days at year, so that they can dedicate time to a charity or community organisation they care about.
Some of these organisations support people going through incredibly difficult periods in their lives. Headway Sefton, founded by our Head of Serious Injury, Carol Hopwood, works with people affected by brain injury. Sean’s Place and Fishing the Mind provides men’s mental health support and Fans Supporting Foodbanks helps people facing food poverty. We regularly collaborate with The Girl’s Network, who offer mentoring support to young women from challenging backgrounds, something that is incredibly important to our Owner/Director, Donna Scully, who gives her time as a mentor. Beyond those already mentioned, we are proud to work with so many more including; Alder Hey, The Alzheimer’s Society, The Inclusive Hub, Sahir House and The Hive Youth Zone.
Grassroots sport has become another important part of our community involvement. We sponsor PortVale Women’s Football Team and Liverpool Feds Women’s Team, as well as FC Community Football, Neston Cricket Club and Wallasey Cricket Club.
Our Charity and Social Committee helps bring much of this work together and gives colleagues somewhere to go when they have an idea of their own or a cause they would like the business to support.
There is no single way that we work with the organisations we support because each one needs something different. In some cases, sponsorship is the most useful contribution we can make, while elsewhere our colleagues may be better placed to give their time, help with fundraising or raise awareness of the work being done.
What matters is understanding what will genuinely help and building relationships that have value over time. We are proud that so many of our colleagues choose to give their energy outside their day-to-day work, as we believe it says a great deal about the people who make up Team Carpenters.
The Gender Pay Gap Report highlights the differences in average pay between male and female colleagues and our commitment to workplace equality.
The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) report outlines our commitment to fostering an inclusive culture that celebrates diversity and supports fairness across our organisation.

With each new client comes new opportunities to expand the Carpenters Group team and we are actively recruiting to fill positions across the business.
