Carpenters Group Legal Academy: Launching Careers
01 December 2025
For Elan Parry, one of Carpenters Group’s newest Legal Academy members, the decision to pursue a legal career was shaped by a personal experience.
As a child, Elan was involved in a car accident alongside a family member: “During that difficult time, a solicitor guided us through the legal process and even stood beside us in court,” Elan explains.
“That moment stayed with me. I knew I wanted to be the person who could support others through challenging circumstances.”
That early experience led her to study a Law LLB at Liverpool John Moores University and then on to Carpenters Group, where she joined our ‘Bikers for Bikers’ team and eventually the Legal Academy in 2025.
The Carpenters Group Legal Academy helps people take the next step in their career and provides detailed development, support and on the job training.
Before joining the Carpenters Group Legal Academy, Elan worked as a Legal Administration Assistant in the Bikers for Bikers team - our specialist team that supports motorcyclists’ legal claims. “It was my first legal role, and the team made me feel so welcome. They were always happy to help, whether it was explaining loss of earnings calculations or helping me understand Ogden tables before my LPC (Legal Practice Course) exam!”
That culture of support has continued in the Legal Academy. “No question is a stupid question here. The managers and colleagues I’ve worked with have been incredibly encouraging.”
Learning by Doing
Elan’s days revolve around conversations with claimants and early-stage file handling. “It’s been a brilliant way to build confidence in advising clients,” she says. “I’ve been able to apply experience from my time on the Bikers for Bikers team, which helped me hit the ground running.”
The Carpenters Group Legal Academy’s structure is designed to immerse new legal professionals in the full lifecycle of a claim. “We receive our own files from the start and are guided through each stage by our Team Managers. It’s hands-on training with real responsibility.”
Eyes on the Future
What excites Elan most is the opportunity to manage her own caseload.
“I’ve worked as a legal assistant and completed my LPC, so I feel ready to put my knowledge into practice.”
Elan is also keen to explore different areas of personal injury law, particularly Serious Injury and Litigation. “I’m hoping to gain enough experience to work towards a Training Contract and ultimately qualify as a solicitor.”
A Culture of Support
Carpenters Group’s Legal Academy goes beyond a training programme, it’s a launchpad for legal careers. Academy members are trained to manage Fast Track Portal cases through all stages with permanent managers and trainers in place to ensure new starters are fully supported as they build competence and confidence. The Academy reflects Carpenters Group’s wider commitment to development and inclusion.
Success in Sight
By the end of her first year, Elan hopes to have settled several claims and gained extensive experience in negotiation. “Success for me means building the skills I need to qualify and making a real difference for clients along the way.”
