Carpenters Group Partners with Exchange Chambers for Exclusive Mock Trial Event
01 April 2025
Carpenters Group recently partnered with Exchange Chambers to host an exclusive Mock Trial event at The Racquet Club in Liverpool on 25th March. Organised at our request, this unique event was designed to provide legal professionals with a real-life simulation of a personal injury trial, enhancing their understanding of the process and giving them valuable insights into courtroom procedures.
Event Highlights
The event took place in two sessions, morning and afternoon and each session lasted 2 to 2.5 hours, including a Q&A segment for attendees. A comprehensive 56-page Mock Trial Bundle was provided to all participants, ensuring they had detailed materials to support their learning.
The trial itself simulated a Multi-track trial in the County Court, focusing on a road traffic collision between a motorcycle and a coach that resulted in a serious leg injury. The case addressed key issues such as liability, quantum, and fundamental dishonesty, which were explored in depth throughout the proceedings.
The event was a fantastic opportunity for the legal side of Carpenters Group to see what a personal injury trial looks like in action. Many lawyers will struggle to gain this experience, as the percentage of claims that go to trial is relatively low.
Legal Counsel and Participants
The Mock Trial was presided over by Louis Browne KC, who played the role of judge. The other counsel included Andrew Ward, Catherine Knowles, Simon Vaughan, Kerron Rohrer, and Amy Hemsley (a pupil at Exchange Chambers). We were also pleased to have attendees from Markerstudy present at the event.
Key Takeaways
The event provided a vital learning experience for all involved. It allowed legal professionals to experience a trial scenario as closely as possible to a real courtroom situation. One of the most important lessons was the value of early case management, which can help prevent issues later in the trial process.
Some of the attendees provided feedback on the value of the mock trial.
“It was really interesting to attend and was very useful to see the impact of evidence and inconsistencies at trial.”
“This was such a good session. I have never seen a trial for insurance so the mock trial and FD example was brilliant. Thank you so much for organising, if I could give the experience 10 stars I would!”
“This was excellent, particularly for any handlers that have never been to a trial. A very good insight.”
We are grateful to all the legal professionals involved and look forward to future events like this to continue enhancing our legal team's skills and expertise.
