Carpenters Group are proud to partner with so many amazing charities and good causes that do vital work in our local communities. Every month we shine the spotlight on one of these to showcase everything they have to offer.

This month we have picked Family Action - A charity who protect children, support young people and offer direct, practical help to families.

July: Family Action

Please introduce your charity and a bit about yourselves...

At Family Action, we’ve been supporting families through change, challenge and crisis for over 150 years.

Today, we work from the heart of 180 local communities, protecting children and supporting young people and adults in the face of increasing hardship and multiplying pressures.

With practical expertise, emotional support and direct financial help where needed, our frontline staff and volunteers are here for any family going through hard times.

Tell us more….

Every day, we make sure 350,000 children start the day with a tasty, nutritious breakfast. Specialist support workers help tens of thousands of families every year with complex, interlinking issues.

Our free national FamilyLine offers first line support for any family and anyone struggling with a family issue, from financial worries and parenting stress to conflict in relationships.

Family isn’t always easy, and every family is different.

We’re here for those with and without family support: we mentor young and care-experienced people and support young carers; we help put food and essentials on the table through our FOOD clubs and create opportunity where it's needed through our grants.

This could mean funding a college course for a young parent, or furnishing a new home after an escape from domestic violence.

We help families get off to the best start in life and offer counselling and support to help heal trauma and restore lost confidence for those who faced early challenges.

At whatever stage in the journey, we're there for people, as long as they need us.

How can people seek support from you?

Our new website will go live in late July and, when it does, you'll be able to search for a whole range of resources and look up whether Family Action operates in your local area.

Until then, call our FamilyLine; (Monday to Friday: 9am until 9pm) where a trained volunteer will be able to offer support and guidance and let you know how to access any services you might be eligible for or signpost you to other support if not.

Are you looking for volunteers?

Yes! We have a wide variety of volunteer roles available at Family Action for people with skills and experience wanting to support children, young people and families.

Volunteering has been at the heart of Family Action since we were established in 1869 by a group of volunteers dedicated to bringing positive change to the lives of vulnerable families.

150 years later, our volunteers are still changing lives. Whether meeting with a family or an individual face to-face, taking calls from a parent in need of advice, or working behind the scenes to provide vital administrative support to one of our frontline services or head office teams, every one of our volunteers makes an impact and helps us achieve our aim of strengthening families and communities.

Watch this video to see how our amazing Friendship Works volunteers are changing the lives of young people in their local area.
