My Journey from Apprentice to Paralegal and Beyond

At Carpenters Group, we believe in nurturing talent and creating meaningful career pathways. This is the story of one colleague, Beth and her inspiring journey from Apprentice Paralegal to joining our specialist Pain Team and now preparing to become a fully qualified Solicitor.
In August 2022, fresh from completing A-Levels, I joined Carpenters as an Apprentice Paralegal. From day one, I was part of the Intermediate Track Team, balancing casework with one day a week of study towards my Paralegal qualification. The apprenticeship route was a perfect fit - offering hands-on experience, academic learning, and no university debt.
Early on, I was trusted with real responsibility: attending court on a high-value case, joining client home visits, and participating in conferences with experienced barristers. These opportunities helped me grow in confidence and capability.
In September 2024, I proudly qualified as a Paralegal with a CILEX Level 3 qualification. I began managing my own caseload, supporting clients with minor brain injuries, work that challenged me and helped me realise my potential.
Six months ago, I joined our specialist Pain Team within the Serious Injury Team. I now assist on complex cases involving chronic pain conditions like Functional Neurological Disorder. Every case is a learning opportunity, and I’m constantly developing my understanding of how to support clients and achieve the best outcomes.
Later this month, I begin the Level 7 Solicitor Apprenticeship with the University of Law. Over the next few years, I’ll work towards a Law Degree and sit the Solicitor Qualifying Exams on track to become a fully qualified Solicitor.
This journey is a testament to Carpenters Group’s commitment to career development. I’ve always felt supported and encouraged to push myself. The apprenticeship route into law has been the best decision I’ve made.
