National Road Victim Month
06 August 2024
Carpenters Group is proud to announce its support for National Road Victim Month 2024 – An annual campaign highlighting the staggering number of people needlessly killed and injured in crashes on the UK’s roads.
As an organisation dealing with the aftermath of road collisions day in and day out, we know only too well the lasting impact on all those involved and their families.
Many people are unaware just how many fatalities a routine activity like driving a motor vehicle leads to.
This is especially tragic, as the majority of road deaths and injuries can be prevented by obeying traffic laws and acting more responsibly on the roads.
Head of Serious and Catastrophic Injury team, Carol Hopwood, talks below about the importance of road safety and generously shares her own story about why this month matters to her both personally and professionally.
“Carpenters Group are delighted to support Road Peace as they continue to campaign to reduce the number of serious and fatal collisions on our roads and to provide much needed support to the families impacted by road collision tragedies.
On a personal note, this time of year is always difficult as we remember my older brother who died in a road traffic collision. Whilst I have acted for the victims of road traffic collisions for over 30 years as a lawyer, nothing prepares you for the reality of when your own family gets a knock on the door. The ripple effect is far reaching and long lasting. His death was avoidable and was caused by the recklessness of another road user. I stand behind Road Peace and the other charities that we work with at Carpenters Group who help families like mine navigate through such tragedies, and campaign so hard to reduce the number of families whose lives are shattered like ours was.”
