Reflecting on Success and Preparing for What’s Next with our Head of Legal Defence
Kevin Perkins
First and foremost, Happy New Year to our readers, clients and colleagues!
As we toast the start of 2026 and look forward to the challenges and opportunities it may bring, it is also an opportunity to reflect and take stock of the progress we have made over the past 12 months.
Our quarterly newsletter was launched just last year to provide a dedicated voice for Carpenters Legal Defence Team, and over the course of the past 12 months, we have seen a number of successes and interesting case outcomes, including findings of fundamental dishonesty and a trip to the Court of Appeal.
In January’s edition, Chris Dibb, our Credit Hire Technical Lead, reflects on one of his many successes in 2025; a particularly interesting case where a significant claim for credit hire was defeated, in large part by the Claimant’s Facebook posting.
In addition, Marie Crawford, the solicitor with conduct of our case Watson v MH Site Maintenance & Markerstudy Insurance has written an article further considering the implications of the Court of Appeal’s judgment and how it is being applied in county courts six months down the line.
Also featured is our usual ‘Meet the Team’ segment, featuring Steph McKenna, a solicitor and team manager in our volume teams as well as an article from myself on the dangers of working remotely on public transport; a trend that is becoming more and more prevalent in the digital world.
2026 is certain to bring its own challenges and notable events, including the highly anticipated Mazur appeal scheduled for February, which is expected to attract extensive coverage from the legal press.
I hope you enjoy the latest edition of our newsletter; if you require any information in respect to the articles featured, or as to services offered by Carpenters Group generally, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
Best Wishes.
