Colleague stories: Mike - 10 years at Carpenters Group

This week we spoke to Mike about his career development in the business.

My name is Mike Dunne and I am a Senior Account Manager at Carpenters Group. I received my long-service award last year after joining the business in 2011 as a team manager in the Insurance Services team and working my way up. 

One thing that stood out to me when I joined was the loyalty shown by the current employees of the business, most had been there for number of years. This, coupled with the fact that the business was expanding, brought opportunities for progression and that was a path I definitely wanted to go down after a couple of years.

I spent my first 5 years in the business asking the right questions, learning from people around me and identifying ways in which I thought our service could be improved. I took my bank of knowledge to the Commercial team in 2016, starting as an Account Manager and tasked with building and maintaining our already strong relationships.

I think it is very important that all colleagues are given the right tools and opportunities to advance their career development however its ultimately down to them to use those tools themselves.
