Matched Giving - Well done to Richard Blears

27 July 2023

We are proud to support our colleagues fundraising efforts with our Matched Giving initiative - a way of boosting the money you have fundraised.

Congratulations to Richard Blears and his family and friends who recently completed The World Heritage Walk to raise funds for Nightingale House. They have raised an amazing £846 and received a £250 Matched Giving fundraising boost from Carpenters Group. This years challenge is a distinctive 13 mile walk through beautiful scenery along the legendary towpaths and footpaths of Llangollen and Oswestry, an area steeped in local heritage.

Here is what Richard had to say:

"Every year since Tom, my little brother, died in August 2019, family and friends have undertaken sponsored events to raise funds for Nightingale House Hospice.

This year we completed a walk from Llangollen, along the banks of the Llangollen Canal, across the Pontcysyllte and Chirk Aqueducts, through the Chirk Tunnels, finishing at Lyons Quay in Oswestry. a total distance of 12.5 Miles and 27,542 steps.

In the four years since Tom has died we have raised over £12,000.00 in Toms memory, with every penny going to fund the incredible work and environment that Nightingale House Hospice provides.

For over 25 years staff at Nightingale House Hospice have created an environment that gives patients and their loved ones quality time to spend together. Not having to worry about the care a loved one receives, knowing they are in safe hands means every second spent together is dignified and peaceful. Without the fundraising support, Nightingale House Hospice specialist palliative care units wouldn’t be able to deliver such high standards of care to patients and family.

We will continue to raise money to support this incredible organisation and appreciate every penny that people donate."
