National Apprenticeship Week 2024 - Part 2

06 February 2024

Carpenters Group are proud to be celebrating National Apprenticeship Week 2024 and would like to give a special shout out to all of our wonderful apprentices!

We have an ever growing apprenticeship scheme, with apprentices across all areas of our business including IT, legal, HR, insurance, marketing and management.

Here’s what some of them have to say!

Meet Charlie:

What apprenticeship are you doing?

Level 3 Information Communications Technician - Azure Cloud Support Specialist

What have you learned on the apprenticeship?

I learned a whole host of things from dealing with computers, to dealing with the servers that we have within the business. I also learned how to deal with end users and how to speak to people in a technical and less technical way!

What would you have done differently?

There is not really a lot different I would have done differently. Maybe starting an apprenticeship sooner!

How has the apprenticeship support you in your role?

The information learned during my apprenticeship has helped build a foundation of knowledge working within my role that will help me along my career.

What are your future plans?

I plan on doing more certificates in the future to help work my way up to 2nd line, I will also look to do a Level 4 apprenticeship once I feel ready to progress even further.

Meet Suli:

What apprenticeship are you doing?

IT Level 3 - Azure Cloud Support Specialist

What have you learned on the apprenticeship?

My apprenticeship was based around learning IT fundamentals with a specific focus on cloud based applications. It allowed me to further expand my knowledge of system such as Azure, Office 365, etc. It also allowed me to develop key English writing skills which is an area of expertise I lacked in, coming from a science based academic background.

What would you have done differently?

The only thing I would have done differently during this apprenticeship would be to take advantage of the cloud academy library resource which I had access to through QA apprenticeships.

How has the apprenticeship support you in your role?

I had really good support throughout my apprenticeship as I was assigned a tutor through QA. She was very helpful in supporting me with my submissions and she made a point of being readily available should I need support with anything else.

What are your future plans?

My future plans are to take another apprenticeship at Level 4 to continue my career progression to aid me in my new role as a 2nd line support engineer.

Meet Freya:

What apprenticeship are you doing?

I am currently doing an Oxford Marketing Assistant Apprenticeship (Level 3)

What have you learned on the apprenticeship?

I have learnt so much during this apprenticeship. Getting work experience whilst at the same time studying for my degree has given me so many learning opportunities. It allows me to take full advantage of the things I am learning because I can apply it to my job role. I have really seen the benefits of an apprenticeship because I feel confident in my role knowing that I have learnt so much and I am able to get the exposure.

How has the apprenticeship support you in your role?

My apprenticeship will definitely support my role because I now have a lot more knowledge on certain topics, meaning I can perform better using the skills and knowledge I have learnt in my apprenticeship, whilst also feeling more confident within my role too.

What are your future plans?

I am excited to see what opportunities my apprenticeship can give me. I also have the choice to continue my apprenticeship to a higher degree which I would like to do in future.
